If you have ever been to Mallorca, you will know that it is absolutely perfect. But you may not have realized that it is also perfect as a film set! In fact, it recently received the Annual Location Managers Guild Award for the best filming location for a movie in the world. And it is easy to see why.

The island of Mallorca is incredibly versatile, with the mountains of the Tramuntana range, the spectacular Mediterranean coastline, cosmopolitan Palma, coves, historic towns and villages... Everything is practically within an hour’s drive.

Another advantage is that it is only a short flight from anywhere in Europe and has one of the highest densities of 5-star hotels in the world, as well as all the infrastructure needed to film a blockbuster.

These are our favorite film productions filmed in Mallorca recently. Make sure to visit these locations on your next trip and, if you feel like it, even recreate some of the scenes.

The Night Manager (The Night Manager, 2016)

The Night Manager is an exciting six-episode adaptation of the excellent novel of the same name by John le Carré. Produced by the BBC, it was "the series you couldn’t miss" in 2016 and revived enthusiasm for Mallorca in the United Kingdom and beyond.

It blends the familiar with the novel: on the one hand, it featured Port de Pollensa, which is very well known among holidaymakers, but on the other, it shows some fairly isolated parts of Mallorca, including Deia beach, which is often overlooked by those visiting the town of Deia and, of course, La Fortaleza, one of Spain’s most valuable properties, which served as Hugh Laurie’s character’s base.

The island also managed to 'act' a little, with several locations in Palma playing roles of their own, such as Café Moderno in Plaça de Santa Eulàlia and the Sadrassana restaurant in Plaça de Drassanes.

The Hotel Inmood Aucanada is a property with spectacular views, very close to the protagonist’s house where the film was shot.

If you feel like visiting the area and spending the day there, there is nothing better than our gift vouchers and experiences at the 5-star Hotel & Spa Son Brull.

Me Before You (Me Before You, 2016)

Another production that made the most of the jewel that is Port de Pollensa and the nearby Formentor peninsula... but this film has a plot twist.

The film’s protagonist, the 'Mother of Dragons' (Emilia Clarke, obviously), sees the main characters embark on a luxury getaway to 'Mauritius'... But it seems that filming the scenes much closer to Europe was cheaper, and the role of 'Mauritius' was actually played by Mallorca—specifically, Cap Formentor!

See for yourself whether our island can stand in for Mauritius by taking a look at some of the day experiences at El Vicenç de la Mar in Cala San Viçens.

Cloud Atlas (Cloud Atlas, 2011)

"Cloud Atlas" is a whirlwind of fantasy that plays with the concepts of time and space and was, by far, the biggest film production in Mallorca. It featured an all-star cast including Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw, keeping islanders constantly on alert and searching for the Hollywood stars!

The film, directed by the Wachowski siblings, creators of "The Matrix", made the most of the otherworldly landscapes of the Tramuntana range.

If you want to experience the magnificence of this mountain range and the film’s settings, you can enjoy one of the experiences at Ca's Xorc Luxury Retreat, hidden high in the Tramuntana.

The Hustle (The Hustle, 2019)

Whatever "The Hustle" may have lacked in terms of depth and critical acclaim compared with the other films on our list, it makes up for with pure, unadulterated fun.

From the cars to the dresses, the spectacular sea views and the impressive hotel rooms, it is a cinematic delight. Especially aimed at women, that is.

If you are a fan of the film, Anne Hathaway or Rebel Wilson, you are in luck. You can easily visit the filming locations and recreate some of the scenes because the vast majority were filmed at the 5-star Hospes Maricel hotel, a stunning hotel to the west of Palma de Mallorca. The hotel is expensive, yes, but you do not have to spend the night to enjoy the glamour. Check out the gift vouchers and day experiences offered by the hotel.
